Prepare for Hurricane Season

Hurricane season is here and Columbia Ultimate would like to offer suggestions that may keep you from experiencing recovery problems with your systems data and programs. There is great comfort in being prepared both in life and in business. Whether it’s a test in school or a natural disaster. Even a Boy Scout knows it’s important to be prepared.

From recent events we know that many of you are prepared. But we wish to offer these suggestions to those who may not be familiar with those procedures that will help should something happen.

Many years ago I received a call from a customer who said “we are on fire what do I do?

“Call the fire department and get out of the building,” I said.

“ But I need to get a File Save (system backup) right now can you help me?”

I kid you not this is a true story. I could not believe here they are, the building is on fire and they are worried about getting a backup. Well I learned a valuable lesson that day. These systems are your tools for making money. They are a major part of what keep your business going to a great extent.

That’s why your systems' data and programs need to be saved, backed-up, kept in a safe location, in case of any catastrophe that may occur.

Columbia Ultimate suggests that you get good nightly back-ups of your system, all of the programs and data. Store these in a safe place, be it a fire/water proof safe or off-site location. There are a various vendors that will store your electronic data off site for you.

Keep all your software from Columbia Ultimate and other vendors in a protected location. Should damage to your server occur, you then can reload these on a new server and hopefully restore lost data from your backups.

In addition to we found the following website link below to be very helpful in Emergency Preparedness for both business and personal. Please take a look online at all the helpful information: www.ready.gov.
